Chilkoot Lake Wildlife Tour
Wild Alaska at Chilkoot Lake
Begin with a beautiful drive alongside the ocean waters of the Lynn Canal fjord, watching for whales, sea lions, bald eagles and other wildlife along the way. At Chilkoot Lake, take in serene glacial waters surrounded by dramatic mountains. The Chilkoot River and lake corridor provide excellent wildlife habitat, with opportunities to see bald eagles, bears and other Alaska wildlife — particularly when salmon are returning. The experience changes with the season and wildlife activity, and we’ll make stops along the way to enjoy the scenery and take photographs.

Travel along the scenic Chilkat River to the Tlingit village of Klukwan, home to the Jilkaat Kwaan Heritage Center and located near the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. Experience the spectacular scenery of the Chilkat Valley while learning about the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Chilkat Tlingit people. This meaningful journey combines local culture, history, mountain and river scenery, and one of Alaska’s most remarkable bald eagle habitats.

Discover the Stories of Haines
Take a step back in time and discover the history, stories and personality of Haines. Explore historic Fort Seward, hear colorful tales from the town’s past — including stories of a former brothel — and discover how Haines has evolved into the community it is today. Along the way, see both historic and modern landmarks, including Haines’ award-winning public library. This tour combines local lore, history and present-day Haines to provide a fun and well-rounded introduction to the community.

Winter Highway Tour
Eagles along the Chilkat River
Enjoy the magic of winter as we drive along the Chilkat River, viewing snow-capped mountains and taking in crisp, fresh air. We will be on the lookout for bald eagles, who travelled great distances to feast upon our late season run of chum and coho salmon. Food is scarce during the winter months, and Haines is known to attract 3000 – 4000 eagles from early October through February. We will also be watching for moose, trumpeter swans, mountain goats and occasional wolves and bears… Your winter adventure is waiting!
